LESS than 20,000 more cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were added to the Philippines' tally Thursday, January 27, bringing the total case count to 3,493,447.

The Department of Health (DOH) said 18,191 additional cases were recorded, out of the 61,013 samples tested last January 25. This means that the country has a positivity rate of 35.2 percent.

The new cases brought the active infections, or the number of people who are currently sick from Covid-19, to 226,521, from Wednesday's 230,410. This accounts for 6.5 percent of the confirmed infections reported nationwide.

Of the active cases, the DOH said 6,875 have remained asymptomatic, 214,857 were mild, 2,971 were moderate, 1,509 were severe and 309 were in critical condition.

The DOH also reported 22,014 new recoveries, raising the total number of Covid-19 survivors to 3,213,190 or 92 percent.

The death toll rose to 53,736 with 74 additional mortalities recorded. The fatality rate stood at 1.54 percent.

Two laboratories failed to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on January 25, contributing on average 0.3 percent of samples tested and positive results.

The DOH continued to call on the public to be vigilant and practice the minimum public health standards to further bring down the country's Covid-19 cases. (LMY)
