Drainage project in Lapu causes vehicular accident anew

THE ongoing drainage project in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu has caused another vehicular accident last January 23, 2022.

A motorcycle rider was reportedly injured after falling in the excavated area of Barangay Maribago.

Julito Conde, a former radio reporter, posted in his Facebook account the actual video that showed the driver and his motorcycle already at the bottom of the hole.

Conde urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the project that is prone to accidents since it has no cover.

Maribago Barangay Captain Rusell Abing said that the driver was avoiding a collision with another vehicle causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and fall into a pit.

The barangay's Emergency Rescue Team was sent to give first aid and bring the victim to the nearest hospital, said Abing.

Abing added that the construction site is surrounded with a yellow caution tape to warn motorists that there is an excavation going on.

According to the barangay captain, this has been the third vehicular accident in the barangay since the start of the project six months ago.

Most of the accidents that transpired in the area are caused by overspeeding and reckless driving, said Abing.

Abing asks motorists to slow down and drive with extra caution specially when passing by the drainage construction areas in the city.

"Once maka kita ta sa early warning device, mohatag ta og pagbantay sa atong pagmaneho sa sakyanan (Once we see an early warning device, we should be careful while driving a car)," said Abing.

The drainage rehabilitation project is part of the P46 million worth of projects lobbied by Lapu-Lapu City Rep. Paz Radaza to the DPWH to solve the flooding problems in the city. (IRT, TPT)
