47 Eastern Visayas cops penalized in 2021

AT LEAST 47 police officers and non-uniformed personnel (NUP) in Eastern Visayas were penalized in 2021 following the internal cleansing program of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"This only connotes that our internal cleansing program is really working, that it really is an effective tool in reforming our ranks. This must be a warning to those who are tarnishing the image of the organization," said Brigadier General Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot, regional director.

The police official added that he is “glad that there are personnel being penalized for their wrongdoings.”

Of the 47 personnel, 10 police non-commissioned officers (PNCOs) were dismissed from the service; five PNCOs were demoted; three police commissioned officers (PCOs) were suspended together with 26 other PNCOs; and three PNCOs were reprimanded.

Meanwhile, there were 113 respondents who were exonerated with 24 PCOs, 87 PNCOs, and two NUP.

Also, there were 45 cases that have been dismissed including that of 14 PCOs and 31 of PNCOs, the regional police command said in their report.

The Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) and Discipline, Law, and Order Section (DLOS) received a total of 108 administrative cases within the year 2021.

This is lesser than that of 2020, which was 114.

Of the received cases, 96 were already resolved and 12 are still pending, making the Admin Case Resolution Efficiency (ACRE) to 88.89 percent.

In 2020, Police Regional Office-Eastern Visatas's ACRE was 100 percent, having resolved all the received cases.

“However, for 2021, there are still pending as some of the cases are still subject for resolution,” the regional police command said. (SunStar Philippines)
