THE National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI 7) is set to conduct an investigation on the alleged hacking of the bank accounts of teachers should they receive any complaint.

NBI 7 Director Rennan Augustus Oliva made the statement after Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Guevarra ordered the NBI to conduct an investigation and case build-up on the recent alleged hacking of bank accounts involving public school teachers who are members of the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition.

The teacher’s organization earlier said it received numerous complaints from its members, in which some of them lost as much as P121,000 each from their accounts.

As of Saturday, January 29, 2022, Oliva told SunStar Cebu that his office has not yet received complaints from teachers, particularly those teaching in public schools, concerning unauthorized transactions in their Landbank accounts.

Oliva said they are willing to help the teachers should there be anyone victimized by the same alleged hacking incidents.

For his part, NBI Cebu District Office Supervising Agent Arnel Pura said while the order of Guevarra only applies to Manila, they can also accommodate Cebu-based teachers who may have similar complaints.

“If there are Cebu-based teachers similarly victimized, they can lodge the complaint to our office and it will [be] consolidated with Manila complaints because there is a task force created for that,” Pura said.
