A BUSINESSMAN was shot dead while he was at his vehicle parked in front of the city hall of Victoria City, Negros Occidental by a still unidentified suspect around 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Fajardo, officer-in-charge of Victorias City Police Station, said that Iksan Umpar, 35, of Toreno Heights, Barangay 4 in the city was about to close his vehicle when the suspect shot him at close range.

A cartridge of a 9-millimeter pistol was recovered from the crime scene.

The victim, who sustained gunshot wounds on his body and shoulder, died at the Victorias City Emergency Clinic while being treated.

Among the angles being looked into the killing of Umpar is his activity related to gambling, Fajardo said.

The police said Umpar played poker and often visited Bacolod to play.

Fajardo said they are also looking into the possibility that the death of Umpar could be business-related.

The victim has a store at the Victorias Commercial Complex, the police official said.

Investigation also showed that prior to his killing, Umpar received death threats and even told his wife to take care of their children in case something happens to him.

Fajardo said they will further coordinate with Umpar’s family and other people close to him to shed light on his killing.
