THE cities of Bacolod, Cebu and Mandaue, which are among the highly urbanized cities (HUCs) in the Visayas region were downgraded to high risk classification for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as of February 3, following the continuous decline in cases, the OCTA research group said on Friday, February 4, 2022.

The said areas were classified under very high risk on February 1.

OCTA research fellow Doctor Guido David said Bacolod’s average daily attack rate (ADAR) went down to 22.90 from 27.26 on February 1 while Cebu City’s dropped from 40.32 to 29.42 and Mandaue declined from 29.99 to 23.06.

Bacolod recorded 1.11 Covid-19 reproduction rate, or the number of people infected by one case, while Cebu City is at 0.87 and Mandaue at 0.92.

David said Cebu City ADAR remains at very high risk while its reproduction rate is now at low risk.

The cities of Lapu lapu, Ormoc and Tacloban remained at high risk classification.

Lapu lapu’s ADAR and positivity rate is at very high risk at 31.20 and 36 percent, respectively while its reproduction is low at 0.88.

Of all the HUCs in Visayas, only Iloilo remained at high risk despite that its ADAR went down to 60.45 from 64.06 and positivity rate from 35 to 32 percent.

Iloilo’s reproduction rate also declined to 1.08 from 1.27 on February 1.

Of all the said HUC’s, only the healthcare utilization of Iloilo is at high risk at 71 percent.

The healthcare utilization of Bacolod, Cebu, Mandaue, Ormoc and Tacloban were at moderate risk at 58, 57, 67,51 and 69 percent.

Lapu lapu’s healthcare occupancy is at low risk at 43 percent.

Meanwhile, David said the provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Cotabato, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental, Guimaras, Maguindanao, Sarangani, Siquijor, South Cotabato, Sultan Kidarat Tawi-tawi and Zamboanga del Norte recorded positive one week growth rates as of February 3.

The ADAR of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental, Sarangani and South Cotabato is at a high risk while the rest of the provinces were at moderate risk based on ADAR.

“Very high growth rates are still observed in Davao Occidental and Camiguin. Cases are trending downward in the rest of the country,” said David.

The Department of Health recorded on Thursday a total of 8,702 fresh Covid-19 cases pushing the total tally of active cases to 153,335 with 71 new deaths and 15,290 recoveries.

The country has a total Covid-19 caseload of 3,585,461 with 54,168 deaths and 3,377,958 recoveries. (SunStar Philippines)
