THE Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is building a P25 million public market in the municipality Kabuntalan, Maguindanao.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday, February 3, in a 640-square-meter lot in Gambar village, where the public market will be constructed.

“One of the engines of economic development is exchanges of goods and services,” said Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, Barmm's minister of interior and local government.

“People have different necessities but the resources available to them are limited, hence, market is a good venue for that,” Sinarimbo added, as he graced the groundbreaking ceremony of the project.

He said the public market will also serve as additional income stream on top of the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of Kabuntalan town.

“The public market is not just an MILG project but this a Barmm initiative for its constituents,” said Barmm Senior Minister Abdulraof Macacua, who hails from Gambar village.

Meanwhile, Barmm's Minister of Public Works Eduard Guerra shared his memories of Gambar village being historical in terms of the Barmm struggle.

“This is a historical place so we must not waste the infrastructure project built in this place," Guerra said.

Engineer Efrel Oric Midtimbang, municipal administrator, on behalf of Kabuntalan Mayor Datu Salaban Diocolano, said the municipal government believes in the core purpose of the project to spur economic dynamism in the locality. (SunStar Zamboanga)
