DUE to the high turnout of vaccinees during the previous National Vaccination Day, the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao said another mass vaccination drive is targeted from February 11 to 12, 2022.

“Data shows na when we have these national vaccination days, musaka gayod atong coverage (Data shows that we have a high coverage during national vaccination days). Meaning, there is really the draw of people towards the vaccination sites to access the vaccines,” said Dr. Janis Olavides, focal person of the Covid-19 Vaccination Program of DOH-Davao.

The event will be the third installment of the national vaccination drive in Davao Region, with the first one held from November 29 to December 3, 2021, and the second from December 20 to 22, 2021, after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

For the third installment, Olavides said they will prioritize vaccination of more senior citizens and promote booster shots for the adult population.

Olavides said based on the data of DOH, the mortality rate of Covid-19 cases is usually high for senior citizens, which is why there is a need to strengthen the vaccination for people 60 years old and above.

“With the Covid deaths nato, although naa sa working population ang mga daghan na kaso, it’s hitting the senior citizen sa mga deaths nato. That’s why we have to strengthen again the vaccination for the 60 years old and above,” said Olavides.

(With our Covid-19-related deaths, although we have high cases in the working population, senior citizens compose most of the death toll. That’s why we have to strengthen again the vaccination for the 60 years old and above.)

Vaccination for the general adult population and minors ages 12 to 17 years will still be part of the mass vaccination drive.

Meanwhile, Olavides said in the coming weeks, DOH-Davao will change the benchmark of the vaccination target based on the 2022 projected population of Davao Region from the previous 2021 population.

Olavides previously said DOH-Davao is targeting to vaccinate the entire population, which is approximately 5.3 million as of 2021, from the initial target of 70 percent of the total population.

Because of this, the current vaccinated population in Davao Region was at 57.5 percent out of the targeted population when based on the 2022 projected population.

If based on the previous benchmark, Davao Region vaccinated 83.4 percent or 3,134,057 first doses, as of February 3, 2022.
