103rd deputy brigade commander gets funeral honors

THE Army's 1st Infantry Division (ID) has tendered a funeral departure honors to the late Colonel Nolie Anquillano, deputy commander of the Marawi City-based 103rd Infantry Brigade.

The funeral departure honors was held Monday, February 7, 2022, at the Sto. Niño de Tabak Chapel inside Camp Cesar Sang-an, home of the 1ID headquarters in Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Anquillano died due to an accidental drowning incident on Saturday, February 5, during a scuba diving activity off Tubigan village, Initao, Misamis Oriental.

Investigation showed that Anquillano was reported missing around 10:20 a.m. while he was with his diving classmates from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and fellow officers.

Around 1:15 p.m., the victim was retrieved by dive masters and was immediately brought to Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital-Initao, but was later declared dead by his attending physician at 1:40 p.m.

Major General Generoso Ponio, 1ID commander; Brigadier General Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade commander; and other officers paid their last respects to the late deputy brigade commander.

A formal send-off ceremony was held at the Pagadian City Airport as the cadaver of Anquillano was transported to Villamor Air Base aboard a C-295 military medium-lift transport aircraft.

Anquillano belongs to the Officer Candidate Course Class 5-1990. (SunStar Zamboanga)
