Tulabut: Dependable

I DON’T know much about this man.

What I do know is that at one time, at the wee hours of the morning, he responded to my phone call.

Yes, it was about 4 o’clock when even roosters are not yet on their high notes, this man took an unlisted number. Since we were not officially introduced, I had to do the courtesy of telling him who was on the other end of the call.

Apologetic as I was for the all-too-suddenly call one dawn last December, Alexander “MR. IN” Indiongco was but calm although sounding little at a daze. But in a matter of few seconds, he came to grasp what the call was all about. It was about letting him know that the entourage of slain colleague Jess Malabanan has already arrived from Samar to the Indiongco funeral parlor along Sto. Entierro.

Long story short, he then had his people at the parlor on their toes to help the Malabanan family get settled from the more than 24-hour land travel from eastern Visayas to Angeles City. The funeral hall also served as staging area before the transfer of Jess’s body in a chapel near his residence.

I remember being frantic on that early morning call as it was one of the two big challenges I had to face a month after being elected as president of Pampanga Press Club (PPC) where the late colleague was a member. Yet, Mr. In was reassuring that all be well and that I need not worry.

True enough, the wake of Jess up to his inurment went without hitch. It was about two weeks where He and the Indiongco firm had to make sure that Jess lies in dignity, with all the attendant services the family needed.

That is how I came to know of Alex. He impressed onto me that he could be depended upon, especially by grieving fellows. This act of kindness brought forth to mind how this man get a full sleep, knowing that there are but hundreds like me (and the PPC) who need his attention.

Am pretty sure that hundreds of people made that kind of call to him where he, probably, put even their company’s finance at risk just to be able to help grieving families and friends of departed loved ones.

Alex is back in the running again for a seat at the city council. I dare say that these are the kind of people who deserve to be in elective posts (along with reelectionist Jay Sangil and Edu Pamintuan).

Mr. IN has not gone callous at all in serving the people of Angeles City. I could only imagine how many calls he had receive in the five terms he was a Councilor (being elected in 2001, 2004, 2010, 2013, 2016).

And I can assure you that those calls did not stop even when he was out of the City Council in the last three years. (His wife Thelma replaced him tho).

This man has been responsible for many key legislations in Angeles City. They include authorships and sponsorships for the creation of CENRO, the CDRRMO.

His handiwork is also affixed on many important measures which will serve present and future generations like the Children Welfare Code, Sanitation Code and Public Welfare Code, and Public Legal Liability Insurance -- these are essential guidelines for the Angelenos. These are but a glimpse of what he has tucked under his belt as a veteran member of the City Council.

For the next three years, Alex hopes to become instrumental again for the greater good and welfare of each and every Angeleno.

He wants a regular allocation of funds for health, sanitation, PWDs, senior citizens and solo parents.

He is aiming for the creation of a permanent office called Medical Social Services Office -- this is a unit that he proposes to be created for the City Government where subsidies for people in crises (deaths, injuries, hospitalization, abandonment, abuse, etc) can be appropriated.

There are many more initiatives that this man is itching to implement and institutionalize. Once he is back, we can expect more support for those with medical problems -- dialysis, cataracts, prosthesis, goiter, harelip and cleft pallete, abnormal blood chemistry. Oh, priority in all of these, of course, will be senior citizens and PWDs where an express lane is being planned to be put up just for them by Alex at the Ospital Ning Angeles.

Mr. IN, while the family business is for the patays, he aims for a better living for the buhays of Angeles City. The deserving ones.
