Andales defends WBO Oriental belt vs. veteran Canoy

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental minimumweight champion ArAr Andales defends his strap against veteran Joey Canoy on March 22, 2022 in Rizal, Laguna.

The 22-year-old Andales is on a roll, winning his last three contests in the past two years. After back-to-back defeats in 2019, Andales bounced back with a fifth round knockout of Rey Caitom in 2020. He followed it up with a third round stoppage of Zandy Padiran before winning the vacant WBO Oriental belt with seventh round stoppage of Minh Phat Sam in 2021 in South Korea.

Andales owns wins over the likes of Miel Fajardo, Jonathan Almacen and Cris Ganoza. He also fought for a world title once but lost to World Boxing Association minimumweight king Thammanoon Niyomtrong via an eighth round technical decision in 2019.

Meanwhile, Canoy is coming off a unanimous decision win over Michael Camelion last Oct. 29, 2021. Canoy is a very experienced fighter like Andales.

He’s fought for an International Boxing Organization belt twice. He’s also fought the likes of former world champion Hekkie Budler and Nkosinathi Joyi, and won over highly world ranked Melvin Jerusalem and Toto Landero.

Andales is 13-2 with five knockouts, while Canoy is 17-5-1 with nine knockouts.
