THE Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, February 11, reminded the local government of Cebu to adhere to the policy of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), particularly in allowing entry to unvaccinated foreigners.

In a virtual press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said it is imperative for all local government units (LGUs) to follow the policies set by the National Government amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

"Let me just remind all local governments that the policies crafted by the IATF-EID are mandated to be followed by each and every LGU," said Vergeire.

"These protocols must be implemented nationally so that we can continuously protect our borders and we can prevent further transmission of diseases," she added.

Vergeire issued the statement after the province of Cebu announced that it is set to reopen its doors to unvaccinated foreign nationals starting March 1.

This goes in contrast with the IATF-EID resolution that only allows the entry of foreigners who are fully vaccinated.

According to Vergeire, the DOH was not consulted about Cebu Province’s policy.

"We were not told of the policy of Cebu on incoming travelers, like foreign nationals," she said.

The health official said they have already sought the help of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regarding the matter.

"The DILG will coordinate with Cebu so that we will get more clarity on the issue," said Vergeire. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
