Philippines logs 3,792 new Covid-19 cases

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, February 12, 2022, reported below 4,000 fresh cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the Philippines.

In its 4 p.m. Saturday case bulletin, the DOH logged 3,792 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country's caseload to 3,634,368.

The health department said of the 3,792 reported cases Saturday, 3,625 occurred from January 30 to February 12.

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region with 520 cases of 14 percent, Western Visayas with 397 cases or 11 percent and Davao Region with 328 cases or nine percent.

The Philippines' positivity rate stood at 14.3 percent from the 32,067 tested on February 10.

Active cases nationwide also decreased to 84,229 or 2.3 percent of the total cases.

Of the active cases, 94.4 percent were mild and asymptomatic, or 76,487 and 3,016 cases, respectively. A total of 2,971 were moderate, 1,443 were severe, and 312 were critical active cases.

The country's death toll also rose to 54,930, with 76 mortalities reported Saturday. The fatality rate stood at 1.51 percent.

Of the 76 deaths, 50 occurred in February 2022 (66 percent), five in January 2022 (seven percent), three in December 2021 (four percent), two in November 2021 (three percent), three in October 2021 (four percent), five in September 2021 (seven percent), four in August 2021 (five percent), one in July 2021 (one percent), one in May 2021 (one percent), and two in April 2021 (three percent), the DOH said.

The agency said the data was only reported on Saturday due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya.

The health department also reported 10,662 recoveries, bringing the total survivors to 3,495,209 or a recovery rate of 96.2 percent.

The DOH said 61 duplicates were also removed from the total case count. Of these, 50 were recoveries. A total of 39 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were also reclassified as deaths after final validation.

For the health utilization rate, 36 percent of intensive care unit beds, 32 percent of isolation beds, 29 percent of ward beds and 19 percent of ventilators were utilized.

The DOH has reminded the public to continue practicing minimum public health standards and to get vaccinated to protect themselves and everyone around them from the threat of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
