Pangan: Love month, during the pandemic

IF THERE is something constant even during these trying times, it is the manifestation of love and its symbolism.

Love is a commodity that has no price tag, at least for some, and no boundaries, or so it seems.

It is, therefore, in the month of February that various gimmicks and gadgets surface to express one’s amorous intentions and rightfully so, as February is love month or Eros month.

As the song goes, there is a season for love, for mutual understanding and alliance, and, luckily for all of us, a respite from the tedious hours and processes of living.

On the economy side, there should be an increase in sales and movement of people who want to go out and splurge on all items bearing on love and its connotations.

Valentine’s Day, as it is observed here in our country, will see dozens and dozens of roses, traditionally the symbol of love, anything red or rosy, in fact, that brings out messages of love, messages through letters and telegrams and restaurants and hotels brimming with couples in love.

Love can be expressed in many different ways. After all, it can be spoken in various languages and verses. There are literary pieces written about eternal love and one can engage in expressing his or her love intentions for someone special, ad infinitum.

***

Hateful messages and commentaries should have no place in our lives, especially during this pandemic.

Love for others should reign supreme during this health crisis. We should care for other people needing our love and attention.

It is this sincere manifestation of our care and attention to victims of disasters and calamities which distinguishes us beings.

We live and co-exist with others, regardless of whether they are relatives, friends or not. Love, after all, does not distinguish, rather it goes beyond beliefs, race or creed.
