THE City Government of Davao will allow business establishments to serve alcoholic drinks beginning February 15, 2022.

On Monday, February 14, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio issued Executive Order (EO) 5 Series of 2022, also known as an “An order providing for the lifting of the modified liquor ban in Davao City.”

Section 3 states that prohibition on the serving of liquor in restaurants, bars, videokes, hotels, and all other establishments open to the public has been lifted.

“Ang pinaka-highlight gyod ani na executive order would not be the time, because dugay naman ta nibalik sa 1:00 to 8:00 na liquor ban, but the prohibition on the consumption in establishments that is open to the public (The highlight of this EO would not be the time of the liquor ban, rather the lifting of the prohibition on the consumption in establishments that are open to the public),” Duterte-Carpio said during her Special Hour program on Monday, February 14. Her program was streamed live on her official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Section 4 of EO 5 continues the prohibition on the consumption of liquor in parks, roads, and other similar public areas.

The mayor said the city will continue to implement the City Ordinance 004-2013, “an ordinance regulating the operations of business establishments serving liquor and other alcoholic beverages,” thus the liquor ban between 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. would still be effective.

Duterte-Carpio attributed the downtrend of Covid-19 cases, as well as the number of Dabawenyos vaccinated against the disease as a factor in lifting the ban on consumption of alcoholic drinks in establishments.

"There is a need to ease and loosen restrictions following the decrease in the number of cases reported, the active vaccination rollout within the city, and the availability of the Molnupiravir drug," Duterte-Carpio said in her executive order.
