1 killed, P6.8M shabu seized in Mandaue anti-drug operation

A 27-YEAR-OLD man did not get to celebrate Valentine’s Day as he was killed in an anti-drug operation in Mandaue City, Cebu Saturday night, Feb. 12, 2022.

In a statement, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said the operation also led to the seizure of P6.8 million worth of suspected shabu.

Jomar Espinoza, 27, of Barangay Tejero, Cebu City and a companion allegedly engaged arresting officers in a gunfight during the operation, resulting in an exchange of fire with operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit, Mandaue City Police Office during the operation in Purok Kiring, Barangay Casili, Mandaue City.

The seriously wounded Espinoza was brought to the Eversley Childs Sanitarium for treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Carlos said.

Espinoza’s companion escaped on a motorcycle.

Scene of the crime operatives recovered one heat-sealed plastic sachet and four knot-tied plastic packs containing suspected shabu weighing about 1,000 grams estimated to be worth P6.8 million.

Also recovered were one caliber .38 revolver, five fired cartridge cases of caliber 9mm, one fired cartridge case of caliber .38, a backpack, a helmet as well as the buy- bust money, the PNP said.
