THE City Government of Mati announced on Tuesday, February 15, that face-to-face (F2F) classes in the city will resume in March after almost two years of not having one.

The Culian Integrated School is the lone school in Mati City chosen by the Department of Health (DOH)-Mati to conduct limited F2F classes with only one classroom will be utilized.

The said school passed an inspection conducted by the Mati Incident Management Team on February 14 that assessed if Culian school is at par with the standards and qualifications set by the DOH guidelines.

The City Information Office of Mati said the low number of Covid-19 cases in the barangay, as well as the high vaccination rate, are major factors in allowing F2F classes in Culian.

It was not specified, however, whether other schools in Mati City also applied for the pilot implementation of F2F classes.

“We would like to appeal to everyone, most especially the parents of the children participating in the F2F (classes) to really be religious in adhering to our minimum public health standards,” read the statement released by the City Information Office on February 15.

Meanwhile, DOH-Davao Region spokesperson Jenelito Atillo earlier explained that F2F classes may be automatically suspended if a certain local government unit is put under Alert Level 3 or higher, wherein conducting of F2F classes are not allowed.

Currently, there are nine schools in the region that are allowed to hold F2F classes, of which one is in Davao City, five in Davao de Oro, and three in Davao del Sur.

Based on the recent report by the National Economic and Development Authority-Davao released on February 7, an overall attendance of 91 percent was recorded in the initial pilot schools from November 17 to December 17, 2021.
