THE Philippine National Police-Mati soft-launched the Mati City Police Station (CPS) Bike Patrollers on February 14, 2022 to strengthen the police visibility and law enforcement in the tourism sector of the city.

City Information Officer Ben Tesiorna said the Mati CPS Bike Patrollers will monitor frequently visited tourists spots in the city such as beaches and resorts, popular business establishments, and other tourist destinations.

“As one of the tourist destinations in the region and in Mindanao, the PNP, in support with the LGU, deem it proper to field more police in crowded tourism areas to ensure public safety and security,” Tesiorna told SunStar Davao on February 15.

The Mati CPS Bike Patrollers are initially composed of eight personnel but P/Col. Efren Orlina, Police Provincial Director, said they are expecting additional patrollers soon.

Mati City Mayor Nakpil Rabat also expressed support for the Bike Patrollers initiative, saying it is both economical and efficient at the same time.

“This is a welcome addition since this has been forever a problem, the lack of personnel,” said Rabat on February 14.

According to the City Information Office of Mati, the CPS Bike Patrollers will be responsible for the expeditious investigation of crimes against tourists, law enforcement, as well as to provide information about the local community and ensure their safety and security.

“That is another strategy to prevent crime. Kapag nakita ang mga pulis natin na nasa area, ma-prevent ang crime (When the police are visible, crimes are prevented),” Orlina said in a video message on February 14.

“They also support our barangays in petty crimes within the area, mga away-away (the fights). They can also implement ordinances especially the health protocols,” Orlina added.

The launching of the said program was also attended by Mati City Chief of Police Lieutenant Colonel Ernesto Gregore, and Police Provincial Administration Officer Lieutenant Colonel Niel Richard Regalado.
