Zamboanga del Sur women's group get DOST aid

THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the grant-in-aid (GIA) program, has provided more than P200,000 financial assistance to boost the livelihood undertaking of a women's group in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

Engineer Gerardo Parot, Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Science and Technology director, said Wednesday, February 16, that the beneficiary of the GIA program is the Women Empowerment Movement-Rural Improvement Club (WEM-RIC) of Dalapang village in Guipos.

Parot said the project is aimed primarily at providing access to science and technology interventions for the 120 members of WEM-RIC of Dalapan through the provision of food related training equipment, food technology skills, and food safety trainings.

Released through DOST's GIA program, the project entitled "Science, Technology, and Innovation to Empower Women in Local Communist Armed Conflict-Affected Community in Barangay Dalapan, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur" is also in support of the implementation of Executive Order (EO) 70 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte.

EO 70, or the Whole-Nation-Approach, is directed at the delivery of effective and efficient science and technology related services, and the establishment of sustainable livelihood systems.

The DOST's GIA program aims to harness the country's scientific and technological capabilities to spur and attain sustainable economic growth and development. (SunStar Zamboanga)
