THE newly constructed Ma-ao Public Market in Bago City worth P87 million is seen to spur economic growth in the southern Negros Occidental locality.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, Mayor Nicholas Yulo and other local officials led the inauguration rites on Tuesday, February 15.

The provincial government, in a statement, said the project will open doors to more economic development and activities in the locality and its neighboring towns and cities.

The public market has an admin office, 30 outer stalls, 36 inner stalls, 25 stalls at the fish section, 25 stalls in the meat section, and male and female comfort rooms.

On top of the P87-million fund from the provincial government, the City Government of Bago also allocated P23.619 million for the construction of additional market blocks, rehabilitation of the market, concreting, and installation of perimeter lighting and fire protection alarm.

Yulo, for his part, thanked the provincial government for its support to the market development of the barangay.

Also present during the activity were city councilors, Ma-ao Barangay Captain Jovito Gahaton and Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa, among other guests. (With Capitol reports)
