THE Joint Task Force (JTF)-Basilan has awarded livelihood assistance to three individuals who surrendered loose firearms through the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) program of the government.
Brigadier General Domingo Gobway, JTF-Basilan commander, identified the recipients of the livelihood assistance as Wahab Ibnu Julhamri, Making Jamali Taning, and Basid Jalani Kalang, all residents of Tinuse Island, Barangay Buli-Buli, Sumisip.
Gobway said each of them received motorboats as fishing is their means of livelihood and cash assistance in a simple ceremony Wednesday, February 16.
They surrendered three unlicensed Garand rifles to the 64th Infantry Battalion through the SALW program, according to Gobway.
“The livelihood package is to entice holders of loose firearms to surrender their guns to the government,” Gobway said.
Mayor Jul-adnan Hataman of Sumisip assisted Gobway in the distribution of livelihood package.
The SALW program seeks to reduce, if not eradicate, small arms and light weapons and prevent crimes in the communities.
The implementation of the SALW program is an initiative of the national government, through the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and Joint Normalization Committee. (SunStar Zamboanga)
