AUTHORITIES have arrested a man who tried to extort his former 60-year-old girlfriend in exchange for not uploading their sensitive photos and videos online.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dionardo Carlos said on Sunday, February 20, 2022, that Jerson Pantaleon, 30, was nabbed during the conduct of an entrapment operation in Taguig City on February 17.

Based on the victim's account, Pantaleon was asking for P1 million from her as he threatened her to expose their intimate photos and videos on the internet.

In order to mislead the victim from thinking that he was the person behind the extortion try, the suspect also sent out extortion messages to himself using a different sim card number to make it appear that he, too, was being extorted.

"As the report shows, the suspect tried to deceive the victim but due to the technical capability of our personnel, they were able to trace the suspect and outsmarted him. The landscape of criminality has been extending to the internet or technology at large, so we have to double our efforts in learning the ropes,” said Carlos. (SunStar Philippines)
