A TOTAL of 17 houses made of light materials were destroyed by strong winds coupled with heavy rains in some areas in Mercedes village, east of Zamboanga City, in the evening of Thursday, February 24, 2022.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Friday, February 25, that the incident also toppled trees, including one that fell on a house.
But Salazar said no one was hurt in the incident.
Mercedes Village Chief Arthur Alejandro, the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) head, said they are undertaking efforts to assist the affected families.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) are likewise exerting efforts to help the village, especially the displaced families.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Friday, February 25, that the trough of low pressure area (LPA) spawned the scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao.
Pagasa said there will be floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains. (SunStar Zamboanga)
