Below 2,000 new coronavirus cases for 8 days staight

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, February 26, 2022, reported below 2,000 fresh cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) for the eighth straight day, with 1,223 cases added to the nationwide tally.

The DOH case bulletin on Saturday said active cases in the country remained high at 53,934, or 1.5 percent of the total infections in the country.

Of the active cases, 48,842 were mild, 2,780 were moderate, 1,417 were severe, 597 were asymptomatic, and 298 were critical.

The health department said the country’s total caseload increased to 3,660,020.

The country's positivity rate stood at 5.3 percent, with 26,631 tests conducted on February 24.

The DOH said 128 patients died due to the disease, bringing the death toll to 56,351.

The case fatality rate stood at 1.54 percent.

The DOH also reported 2,400 recoveries on Saturday. This brought the total individuals who recovered from the disease to 3,549,735 or 97 percent.

As for the healthcare utilization rate, 27 percent of intensive care unit beds, 22 percent of isolation beds, 16 percent of ward beds and 14 percent of ventilators have been utilized.

The DOH has reminded the public to get vaccinated to protect themselves and people around them from the threat of Covid-19.
