When SM’s Kristin Seno, SM regional operations manager, asked members of Cebu Artists Inc. (CAI) if they could have an art show at The Northwing, the members readily agreed, provided it would be an art show for a cause.

In response, the art exhibit “Moving Love” was opened Feb. 11 to raise funds for Typhoon Odette survivors in Poblacion Occidental in Consolacion, Cebu. For CAI members, the exhibit is an apt way of celebrating Valentine’s Day.

At the exhibit opening, SM mall manager Marilu Kunisala welcomed the artists and guests. Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado, art patron Dr. Vicente Avanzado, National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ Danny Rayos del Sol (who came to Cebu to distribute water purifiers to typhoon victims), Art Cebu coordinator Laurie Boquiren and Chocolate Queen Raquel Choa cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Artists who joined this exhibit for a cause are Jonathan Abellana, Lida Marie Aguilar, Leodito Bongo III, Methuzael Carredo, Cesar Castillo, Georgina Castillo, Romeo Cortez, Jr., Joseph Cristobal, Adeste Deguilmo, Reynan Dingal, Jess Dinglasa, John Dinglasa, Jun Impas, Joseph Ong, Renulo Pautan, Celso Pepito, Fe Madrid Pepito, Ruel Rosello, Lucilo Sagayno, Antonio Vidal, Marlone Ylanan and Sonia Yrastorza.

To make art closer to the people, CAI artists will hold on-the-spot portrait sketching during weekends, and on Feb. 26, 27 and 28, the group scheduled on-the-spot painting at the exhibit venues (The Northwing entrance lobby and at its second level lobby of the administrative office). They will paint in oil or acrylic and all artworks done in these events will be included in the exhibit for an attractive price to encourage viewers who appreciate art to start a collection, and to raise more funds for the typhoon survivors who will be given roofing materials: GI sheets and umbrella nails.

As Mayor Alegado hoped, this partnership between SM and CAI will raise enough funds to help his constituents whose houses were almost totally wrecked by Typhoon Odette.

Catch the exhibit “Moving Love” at SM City Cebu, a display which shows how love for art and love for others can move the community to action.
