Lacson: Automatic rebate bill

LAST year, we availed the cable and internet plan offered by Satellite Cable Network or SCN. For us, it was one of the practical choices we made, as it allowed us to have cable channels like Disney, History, and others to enjoy while having our internet connectivity as well. However, the company was sold to Converge ICT Inc. without our prior knowledge to us their clients. I got hold of this information last year as I was about to pay our monthly bill in their Dolores office. It was unfortunate and sad as I have some sentimental attachment to SCN having been a local reporter of GNN TV 44 formerly Infomax 8.

Anyhow, we are really satisfied with the service of SCNI both in our Mexico and San Fernando accounts. We rarely experience disconnections and poor service from SCNI. However, last week, when our accounts were fully transferred to Converge ICT, our internet was disconnected, and as of the time of writing, it is not yet reconnected.

I went to the Converge ICT office beside KFC in San Fernando and reported the incident only to be told that they are fixing something and that the connection will be back within the day. I even paid our February bill (our payments are updated) despite our internet not functioning properly. To no avail.

This is what made me think, how many customers like us are suffering now while we experience this poor service from our internet service provider? It is funny how these companies cut off our connection when we fail to pay on time and yet we do not get a rebate for the days that we have a disconnected internet connection because of system failures and other reasons.

I hope at least one lawmaker will hear the plea of poor customers like me who should receive rebates or bill deductions as a result of interruptions in our internet connectivity. Customers will simply have to provide proof of their disconnected service and report it in the ISP Hotline and get a service ticket. The date of reporting will be the basis as to how many days the rebate will be computed. In this way, customers will pay for the services that are being provided to them. We should make this move to combat the short changes that ISP companies continuously commit against their customers.

I hope that this simple declaration will spark a movement because we are fighting for the money we worked hard for. I hope someone will support this move.
