5 arrested for illegal fishing

FIVE people were arrested for illegal fishing, while their motorboat was seized in a law enforcement operation east of Zamboanga City, the police reported Tuesday, March 1.

Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), said the arrest was made around 3:20 p.m. Monday, February 28, off Muti village.

Lorenzo identified those arrested as Bensal Bungkak, Benhar Bungkak, Nurvin Dawa, Ibrahim Ajijun and Vic Dawa.

Lorenzo said they were nabbed for illegal fishing by personnel of the ZCPO's Station 2 together with officials of Muti village.

Seized from them were one motorboat locally known as "hulbot-hulbot," two ice chest and two plastic containers of assorted fishes and fishnet.

Lorenzo said all the arrested fishermen were brought to the ZCPO's Station 2, while the confiscated items will be turned over to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
