Mati City Government to install Wi-Fi in public market

RESIDENTS of Mati City will be able to use a free Wi-Fi connection soon at Madang Public Market after the initial installation was done last February 26, 2022.

According to Mati City Information Office, the public Wi-Fi connection installed have a strength of 2.4 to five Gigahertz Wi-Fi signal based on initial testing results. It is targeted to be open for the public’s use by next week.

Eight areas at the said market were installed with Wi-Fi connection, particularly three waiting areas and four hallways. All areas are near significant landmarks inside the market.

“Usa sa rason nganong naa tay free wifi kay para sa mga stakeholders ug consumers sa Madg Public Market ug alang sa pagtabang ug paghatag og oportunidad sa atong mga negosyante sulod sa online market (One of the reasons we installed free wifi is to provide for the stakeholders and consumers of the Madang Public Market, as well as to help and give opportunities for local business owners venturing into the online market),” said Admin Support Staff Emmanuelita Mansilla.

The project was proposed last September 2021 and a site design plan and market-wide survey were conducted the following month. The project aims to connect the local residents and small businesses to the worldwide web since online business and e-commerce are currently trending.

“The installation of the free public Wi-Fi in the Mati Public Market is just a start of the City Government's plan on providing a stable and free internet connection in public places within the city,” Ben Tesiorna, CIO Officer told SunStar Davao on Wednesday, March 3.

Tesiorna said the public Wi-Fi connection in Madang Public Market is only one of the targeted areas in the city to have Wi-Fi access.

He said the project, undertaken by the City Government of Mati, also proposed to install internet access at the city hall, baywalk, and a university, among other areas.
