Samboan to build new public market

THE town of Samboan will get a new public market in about nine months’ time, Mayor Dr. Emerito “Doc Tito” Calderon Jr. informed sellers at the Samboan Public Market Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022.

Calderon said the construction of a new and modern public market would begin in the southwestern Cebu town this March, according to a statement from the local government unit.

The vendors will be temporarily transferred to another area while the construction is ongoing, but he said the vendors have the option to look for their own temporary areas for the display of their goods.

The construction of the New Samboan Public Market is expected to take nine months.

Samboan is bordered on the south and the east by Santander and Oslob, respectively.

Southern Cebu was among the areas hit by Typhoon Odette (Rai) last Dec. 16, and the town listed 112 families eligible for assistance who received from P1,000 to P5,000 each.

The Bureau of the Treasury credited the amount of P414,000 to the town’s bank account at the Development Bank of the Philippines-Cebu City Branch for this purpose last Dec. 29.

The bureau said the money was to cover the funding requirements for the financial assistance to local government units affected by Typhoon Odette.

Vice Mayor Doc Tito assumed his father’s position after Mayor Emerito Sy Calderon Sr. died on Dec. 21, 2020 due to heart failure at the age of 88.
