AS it formally unveiled the all-new 2022 Avanza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on Monday, March 7, 2022, Toyota Motors Philippines (TMP) aims to sell at least 1,000 units every month as it stops selling the second-generation model which has been in the market for 10 years.

This latest Avanza model is expected to dominate the MPV segment because of its practicality and functionality features. It also shifts from being a commercial vehicle model into one that is “fit for the family guaranteed to bring the joy of driving and more happiness on the road.”

It also offers better value-for-money features and striking design upgrades for its 2022 reinvention.

“The Philippines loves commercial vehicles or CVs. Through the years, MPVs have served as a practical choice for the day-to-day needs of Filipino families. And we love giving our customers choices. That is why we are reintroducing our reliable, tried-and-tested model in the compact MPV segment. I am sure this full model change of this well-loved family car will bring more happiness for all,” said TMP president Atsuhiro Okamoto.

Features

The All-New Avanza comes in four variants, each variant developed to cater to specific needs. Its price ranges from P813,000 to P1.039 million.

This latest model gets an updated exterior featuring a “sleek and active” design, split-type LED headlamps and for the G variant, 16” alloy wheels. It also comes with additional convenience as it now has the push start button system and a 4.2” TFT Multi-Information display for the G variant, and auto-fold side mirrors for both G and E variants.

Toyota has also made this new Avanza more fuel-efficient with an improved driving experience with its new front-wheel drive and CVT transmission.

This new third-generation model can also handle long road trips with its flexible seven-seating adjustments with a long sofa mode feature and ample luggage space. It also features an eight-inch audio display that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity available for the G and E variants, and USB ports available for recharging each family member’s gadgets.

In terms of safety, the G and E variants are equipped with a back camera and back sensor, while the G variant is equipped with blind-spot monitoring and rear camera traffic alert for easier parking and maneuver. It also features vehicle stability control and six SRS airbags (G variant).

Positive feedback

Since its pre-selling on March 1, TMP first vice president for vehicle sales operations Sherwin Chualim said, the reception has been positive as shown in the increasing foot traffic in all of Toyota Philippines’ showrooms.

The Avanza model has become an image of versatility and reliability perfectly suited for Filipinos’ mobility needs.

It was first introduced in the Philippines in 2006.

Vehicle sales in the country increased by 20 percent in 2021 due to the sector’s resilience amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Data from the joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and Truck Manufacturers Association showed that total car sales reached 268,488 units in 2021, higher than the 223,793 units sold in 2020. However, the industry missed its full-year sales target of 295,400 by nine percent.

TMP still had the largest market share at 48.30 percent, after selling 129,667 vehicles last year.
