During this pandemic, where oh where do you venture for good food, fresh sea-breezes, safe outdoor surroundings, and more?

Look no further. At Il Corso Lifemalls, the first mall development by Filinvest in Cebu, the foremost attraction is the location itself, along the SRP Seawall where diners, leisure-seekers and shoppers can safely stroll while breathing in healthy sea breezes!

Why? It’s the latest and trendiest lifestyle destination hereabouts!

The vast area is dominated by the Food Yard at the North Parking section which opened just last summer. It includes the existing al fresco dining stops: Parilya, Dessert Factory, Chikaan, Fishes Seafood and Wine, and milk tea shop BubbleZ.

Since then, more dining spots have started to rise, including the South Area. We checked out these innovative places:

Have you tried original French Crepes without ever leaving the country? We did by tasting Clara’s Crepes, where the genial host regaled us with their start-up. Originally owned by a French couple in Cebu, the successful store had to close at the start of the pandemic, and luckily, the new owners heard about it and presto! They took over! Highly recommended flavors which are faithfully retained are Salted Caramel Mango, Salted Caramel Banana and Salted Caramel & Butter-Baked Apple. Try all!

Next stop was a spicy lechon treat by highly rated Ayers Lechon. They pride themselves in being tastefully authentic. Proof is that they are Hall of Famers as Most Trusted Lechon Maker in Metro Cebu 2014 and winners of the Global Management Excellence Award in 2015.

Where have you been if you’ve never tried Dessert Factory? This famous and ideally located bakery and restaurant has a couple of city branches, the latest of which is at Il Corso.

Sinfully delicious desserts are their mainstays but they have happily joined the bandwagon for varied menus for lunch and dinner. This we experienced recently, with my top Italian dish, the Chicken Parmigiana, earning a rated 10 classification. Other classic dishes are featured here.

Don’t forget to try these: Trail Mix, a nutritious snack composed of dried cranberries and golden raisins with lightly toasted walnuts, cashews, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and imported chocolate and local sweets; and Tableya Nana, a concoction of banana cake and tableya.

Our profuse thanks goes to proprietors Kenneth Lim, Dr. Rachel Lim and to Teddy Sy.

Join us next week for Part 2 (conclusion) of this write-up.
