3 easy ways you can save on electricity

Social media has been filled with posts about electric bills recently, with people claiming that their bills have doubled (or tripled) right after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

Some of these were cases of people not understanding the bill or erroneous billing statements. Whatever the case, typhoon or no typhoon, it’s best to practice good habits when it comes to electricity consumption at home.

Here are three random tips on how to help save on electricity at home, according to the Department of Energy:

Maintain ACs regularly

Did you know that by regularly cleaning the filters and condensers of your air-conditioner (one horsepower), you can save up to P100, on your monthly bill?

Light sensitive

When you enter the room and see that the lights have been turned on, but there’s nobody in there, turn off the lights! One light bulb off for six hours will save you P25 a month. Also, skip the compact fluorescent lights and use LED lights instead. It saves you a whopping 50 percent worth of energy consumption.

Always unplug

Your electric appliances at home may be turned off, but they still draw power. Imagine how much power they consume if you leave them plugged into the electrical outlet overnight. Unplug fans, televisions, and water dispensers when not in use.
