THE seawater desalination plant built by the Municipality of Bantayan in northern Cebu is now 100 percent complete.

A water tasting was held on the water processed at the desalination plant in Barangay Luyongbaybay on the islet of Doong last Tuesday, March 8, 2022, the local government announced on its Facebook page.

Bantayan Mayor Arthur Despi aims for the plant to benefit the town’s neighboring islet barangays as well.

He now plans to install pipes leading to the neighboring barangays.

Bantayan has 25 barangays, of which at least five are islet barangays.

Those who tasted the water from the plant were Municipal Water Works Supervisor Alona Valendez, Sangguniang Bayan Members Abraham Desamparado, Jebarr Barretto, Markham Mansueto and Janet Hubahib, Luyongbaybay Barangay Captain Epifania Pastoriza, and Municipal Engineering Office executive assistant/OIC Jose Rechie Delos Reyes, the local government said.

The facility has a booster pump, pressure tank, product tank, carbon filter and sterilizer.

A day earlier, on March 7, the town also had the blessing of the renovated Dried Fish and Vegetable Section of the Bantayan Public Market.
