THE Department of Agriculture-Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-Saad) program delivered 20 Heifers to its project recipients on Tuesday, March 22, in two municipalities in Zamboanga del Norte.
Jailyn Gamutan, Saad livestock technician, said that 10 members of the Binoni Madasigon Farmers' Association in Salug and 10 from New Dapitan Farmers Association in Tampilisan are the beneficiaries of the Cattle Dispersal Project worth P898,000 under the Saad program 2022.
Gamutan said each association selected the members to raise the heifer until it produces a calf to be given to other members who have not received an animal.
Gamutan provided a short briefing on care and management of the cattle before the farmers accepted the project.
"These heifers can either be artificially inseminated by the LGU (local government unit)-Veterinary Service or they can also undergo natural breeding," Gamutan said.
Rolan Montallano, New Dapitan farmers association president, expressed his gratitude to DA-Saad.
"We are very fortunate that we were selected as one of the beneficiaries of this Saad project. We were given livestock without spending a peso, so in return we will make sure that each of the 28 members of the association will own their share," Montallano said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
