The hot dry season is here and expect things to get even hotter.

On March 16, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced that the country’s cool dry season was over.

The cool dry season usually falls from December to February while the hot dry season falls from March until May.

Here are some reminders on how to stay healthy and remain active during the hot days ahead!

Water is key

The general rule is, drinking up to eight glasses of water every day. The other rule is, don’t wait until you are thirsty before drinking. Drinking water is an essential key to battling dehydration.

Remember, not all drinks do not help retain water in the body. Drinks like coffee and tea are “diuretics.” These drinks increase the amount of urine you produce gets rid of excess water in your body.

Wear something light

Loose, lightweight and light-colored clothes are best for these hot days. They help deflect a bit of the sunlight that hits your clothing and you are also able to freely move while doing work, tasks or simply going out with family or friends.

Turn up the AC

While some households do not have air-conditioning units installed for a variety of reasons ranging from architectural design to financial expenses, those that do should begin turning them on to help the people at home cope with the extremely hot weather.

How hot has it been lately? On March 6, Dagupan City, Pangasinan recorded the hottest heat index so far for 2022, at a scorching 51°C.

For an alternative to using the AC at home, you can visit and hang out in the malls in the city.

Regularly take cool showers

Taking cold showers not only helps you stay cool but boosts your body’s immune system! According to a clinical trial in the Netherlands, cold showers reduced the number of people calling off sick from work by a whopping 29 percent!

Of course, we’re not suggesting you use up all your ice cubes for an icy bath! Just remember to keep cool when you can, especially after a hot day.

Remember your pets

Do not leave your pets in the car under the heat of the sun, and make sure they always have clean water to drink!
