Local teams falter in National Softball Open

LADY Luck continues to elude local bets as they continue to falter in the National Softball Open Championship here in the Summer Capital.

University of Cordilleras failed to sustain its winning run as it bowed against a more experienced Adamson University-Cavite in three innings, 16-1 in the ladies contest at the Melvin Jones football grounds.

The UC Lady Jaguars earlier mangled Besao Belles of Mt. Province also in only three innings, 9-2 while Kabenguetan suffered the same fate against the University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses, 23-0, also in three innings fashioning out their third win in four starts.

Rizal Province also took an easy three inning win against Besao, 15-0 to keep its hope alive in the tournament.

University of the Philippines-Mama Sita, on the other hand, pulled contrasting wins to stay in the hunt for a semis berth disposing Adamson University-Cavite in seven sets before bowing to Polytechnic University of the Philippines in four innings, 13-0.

Rizal Technological University, meanwhile, used a four-run salvo at the top of the 10th inning for an 8-4 come-from-behind victory over Adamson University-Cavite late Tuesday afternoon also at the Melvin Jones field.

The win, their third straight, not only assured RTU of its place in the crossover Final Four in Group B of the women's play, it also boosted the bid of UAAP champion University of Santo Tomas to barge, too, into the semifinal round of this series sponsored by Pera Padala, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, Phiten, Just Jewels and Le Soleil de Boracay.

In the men's play over at the nearby Baguio Athletic Bowl, MS-Marikina outlasted Baguio City, 4-2, to remain the only team unbeaten in Group A with its clean 3-0 win-loss slate. They are next only to idle RTU Blue Thunders.

Bulacan State University posted its second straight triumph at the expense of BMRP of Benguet tying Cavite Province at the top of Group B in the process.

The Baguio City clouters avenged the loss to MS-Marikina by trouncing La Trinidad of Benguet.
