THE vendors inside the Burgos Public Market will be temporarily transferred along Daniel Ramos and Burgos Streets in Bacolod City while the edifice is undergoing renovation.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets, on Sunday, March 27, said Mayor Evelio Leonardia along with the City Engineer’s Office and market supervisor inspected the ongoing renovation of Burgos Public Market, which already began on Saturday.

Pineda said the city already started the renovation of the Burgos Public Market along with the two other big public markets in the city.

“We expect to clear the fish and vegetable sections of Burgos Public Market this month to start the rehabilitation of the building,” he said.

He added that temporary stalls were also constructed outside the market for the fish and vegetable vendors.

Pineda noted that the Department of Budget and Management earlier approved the request of Mayor Leonardia for P150-million financial assistance to fund the improvement and rehabilitation of the three major public markets.

The budget will be divided equally for the development of Libertad Public Market, Central Market and Burgos Public Market.

Leonardia earlier said the P150 million assistance will be a substantial investment in the city’s three major markets to counter the unprecedented devastating health and economic consequences or impact of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

He said the primary purposes of the projects are to meet sanitation standards, protect public health and restore economic prosperity.

“As part of our economic recovery program, this will give us a positive trajectory of our economic outlook. Our march to recovery will always be a team effort,” he added.
