INCUMBENT Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte is hoping that his father, President Rodrigo Duterte, will endorse the candidacy of presidential candidate former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.

In an ambush interview during the UniTeam caravan at the Polomolok Municipal Gym in South Cotabato Sunday, March 27, Duterte said his father has not yet been vocal on who he will be supporting for the presidency.

"Hindi pa natin alam (We don’t know yet), but there are signs na. Nakita na natin [ang] PDP-Laban [Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan], nag-release na ng statement na (We saw that PDP-Laban released a statement, saying that) they're supporting BBM so I hope the President will express his support to BBM ['Bongbong Marcos]," Sebastian said.

The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi endorsed the presidential bid of the son of the late President Marcos Sr. on Tuesday, March 22. Duterte is the chairman of the said party.

Sebastian was present in the political rally to represent his sister, vice presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The vice mayor, who is running for city mayor, had endorsed the candidacy of his sister and Marcos during Hugpong ng Pagbabago and Hugpong ng Tawong Lungsod (HNP-HTL) caravan in Calinan Gym, Davao City on Friday, March 25 --- the first day of the local campaign.

Acting Presidential Spokesperson Martin Andanar said on Thursday, March 24, that Duterte and Marcos had a meeting.

Andanar said the President "discussed the current government's major achievements and gave pieces of advice to Mr. Marcos."

He said the President expressed optimism that Marcos will continue his administration's key programs and projects. (RGL)
