ARNIE Macañeras and Julie Anne Morales crowned themselves king and queen of the BBG 45 Ultramarathon 2022 Davao race that kicked off at People's Park and finished at Wines Elementary School in Baguio District, Davao City on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Macañeras, a Mt. Apo Tourist Guide and a veteran trail and ultra runner, clocked a total of three hours, 36 minutes, and 10 seconds to emerge champion in the men's 45K division.

The former Brokenshire College varsity standout raced past Arcie Paran who timed 4:04:25 for the runner-up honors and Niko Tongkalang who finished third with 4:10:10.

Tagum City's Morales, for her part, checked in at 5:22:39 to pocket the women's 45K title over Alma Labial and Aiko Lim who grabbed the next two places. Labial registered 5:44:02 for the second spot while Lim recorded 5:45:39 for the third.

The top three finishers of each division received trophies and merchandise items from sponsors.

Organizer Roel Ano said from People's Park, the 55 participants proceeded to Maa, Matina, Bangkal Bypass Road, Mintal, Calinan, and stopped at Wines Elementary School.

Ano said it was the first ultrarunner race after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This is to celebrate my seventh birthday run since 2016 it was held in Manila now it's in Davao," he told this writer in a Messenger interview.

After the success of BBG 45 Ultramarathon 2022 Davao, Ano will have his hands full as preparations shift to high gear for the BBG Trail Run 25K and 16K on May 1, 2022, in Carmen, Baguio District, Davao City. (MLSA)
