A MONEY lender was shot dead by four unidentified gunmen at Barangay Mabini in Escalante City, Negros Occidental at about 2 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2022.

The death of Wilfredo Turno, 50, of Sitio Bug-as in Barangay Balintawak in the city, took place several days after his relative was also shot dead at the nearby town of Toboso, Escalante City Police Station chief Colonel Rocky Desear said.

In fact, Turno and his son came from the wake of their slain relative before the attack happened, Desear said, adding that the suspects have been tailing them from Toboso.

Investigation showed that Turno was driving his motorcycle when the four suspects, who were clad in black jacket and short pants, overtook the motorcycle of the victim upon reaching the area of Sitio Amparo and shot him several times.

His son, whose name the police withheld, said was also driving his tricycle and was following his father when he heard the gunshots and later saw his father falling to the ground.

Unfortunately, Desear said, the victim’s son failed to identify the gunmen as they were wearing bonnets and face masks.

He said that they are yet to establish the link between the killing of Turno and his relative.

Desear stressed that Turno’s killing is not related to his business and that the suspects did not take his personal belongings.

Seven fired cartridge cases of .45 caliber were recovered from the crime scene, police records showed.
