Mayor Jerry Treñas thanked A. Montinola Foundation with the help of Library Renewal Partnership founder Quintin Jose Pastrana for supporting the city's educational endeavors.

“They aim to help educate by giving books and conducting book drive. The Library Renewal Partnership collects books to distribute and to reach out to public libraries,” said ICPL head Marion Aguirre.

She added the donations were mostly children’s books, references and textbooks.

Other beneficiaries were Jaro National High School; A. Mabini Elementary School; Iloilo River Plains Integrated School; Study Hub at Buhang, Jaro; Sto. Niño Sur Elementary School; Pakiad Elementary School; Iloilo National High School; Department of Education; and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Male Dorm in Barangay Ungka, Jaro.

They also gave e-books to be connected to recipients.

The book donation was also supported by Representative Julienne Baronda and Councilor Lady Julie Grace Baronda, chairman of committee on education of City Council.

It was also assisted by Philippine Librarians Association Western Visayas Regional Council.

Meanwhile, the ICPL, which is located at the Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Learning Resource Center and Museum on Fajardo St., Jaro, announced that it has extended its services Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8p.m., without noon break.

Aguirre said free Wi-Fi connection is available.

She added they are also preparing a library extension at the second floor of Sta. Filomena Day Care Center in Arevalo.

“We encourage those who want to study or review or simply read books to visit our libraries,” said Aguirre. (PR)
