AS THE sports community slowly regain its bearing from the effects of Covid-19, the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) organized a lecture with renowned sports physician Dr. Rhoel Dejaño on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Bright Academy gym in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City.

The main objective of the seminar was to help orient the different groups related to the reopening of training and tournaments.

In attendance were 130 personnel from the Department of Education’s Physical Education and School Sports coordinators and teachers; Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) officials and coaches, athletes and event organizers; and the Cebu City “School for Sports” coaches.

Dr. Dejaño is a former CCSC commissioner and was an official Olympic doctor during the 2016 Rio Olympics. He is also the official Cesafi physician and the former president of the Philippine Academy Of Rehabilitation Medicine.

He discussed the new CCSC Guidelines on Health and Safety, offered suggestions on how to safely resume practices, and gave tips on how to organize large-scale sporting events.

“This pandemic has done something good for sports. It has highlighted the importance of safety and good health for all. It has reminded all organizers of the need for medical teams. All events must now include medical staff and safety protocol officers,” said Dejaño.

For his part, CCSC Chairman John Pages said: “This was the first big gathering of Cebu sports coaches, officials and organizers since March 2020. We not only learned from Dr. Dejaño but also had a good discussion with the representatives of the Cebu sports community.”

“The CCSC plans to continue this series of lectures on a regular basis. The next schedule is targeted in June and will feature top Cebuano athletes who will share their tips and lessons with the athletes,” Pages added.
