TWIN shooting incidents, both happened in broad daylight, have resulted in the deaths of a carpenter and another man in Bacolod City over the weekend.

Captain Elmer Bonilla, commander of Police Station 7, said Edgar John Mendoza, 36, of Abada Escay Relocation Site in Barangay Vista Alegre, was doing carpentry works outside of his neighbor’s house shortly before noon yesterday, April 3, when suspect Darryl Dasa, arrived and shot him at close range.

Dasa, who is also Mendoza’s neighbor, fled while the victim died on the spot from a gunshot wound on the back, investigation conducted by Staff Sergeant Mark Anthony Pabuaya showed.

“Grudge could have triggered the crime,” Bonilla said, adding that they failed to recover the firearm used in the shooting.

Police records showed that Dasa was previously involved in a robbery incident in the city’s Barangay Vista Alegre.

On Saturday, April 2, Yuki Castro, 31, of Purok Marapara in Barangay Bata was also gunned down at about 9 a.m. by an unidentified suspect using an unknown caliber of a firearm.

Captain Armilyn Vargas, commander of Police Station 3, said Castro was about to buy cigarettes from a sari-sari store at Purok Pine Tree in the barangay when he was killed.

She said Castro's companions only heard gunshots and later saw the victim with a wound on his right chest lying on the ground, adding that the women did not see who shot him.

Vargas noted that Castro, who died on the spot, was previously involved in illegal gambling and was also accused of physical injuries.

As of yesterday, the motive for the killing is still being investigated.

Hacking

Meanwhile, Junie Carbonilla, 41, of Barangay San Rafael in Hinoba-an town also died on the spot when his neighbors ganged up on and hacked him inside their house at about 5 p.m. yesterday.

Major John Ganzon, acting chief Hinoba-an Police Station, told Sunstar Bacolod that the suspect Michael Indocan entered Carbonilla’s house and hacked the latter, who was forced to retaliate and hack him on the head.

“When Indocan’s relatives learned of what happened, they rushed to Carbonilla’s house, ganged up on him and hacked him to death before fleeing,” he said.

Indocan was rushed to a hospital while two of his relatives, Alex and Eduardo Indocan, were arrested, Ganzon said, adding that the other suspects identified as alias “Pinocio,” alias “Dodong Buhat,” alias “Badot” and alias “Bebe” were able to escape.

Prior to the incident, the children of Indocan and Carbonilla had a fight, Ganzon noted.

Authorities are conducting further investigation on the incident.*
