AN EARLY morning fire destroyed five houses and damaged another in Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2, Bacolod City past 2 a.m. Friday, April 8.

The more than 30-minute fire also injured residents Magdalena Pigo, 47, and Romeo Buenconcejo, 53, the Bacolod Bureau Fire Protection reported.

Bacolod City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi said the fire started from the room of Pigo, who was asleep when the fire broke out.

Legaspi said the fire was already huge when she woke up.

Pigo managed to go out but sustained minor burns on her hands. She was brought to a hospital.

Buenconcejo, on the other hand, sustained laceration on his forehead while he was trying to save their belongings, Legaspi said.

Since they are mostly made of light materials, the fire easily spread from one house to another, he added.

Firemen were able to put off the blaze past 3 a.m. It left P300,000 in damage to properties.

Legaspi said they are eyeing electrical short circuit as the possible cause of fire.

As of Friday, the affected residents are temporarily staying at the gymnasium of the barangay.

Meanwhile, about P100,000 worth of properties were also destroyed when a portion of the municipal hall of Isabela was gutted by fire around 5 p.m. Thursday, April 7.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The BFP-Isabela is yet to determine the cause of the fire as of this posting Friday.
