Catholics in Bacolod City commemorated Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, April 10, 2022.
This is the day that He commenced his mission to fulfill the will of the Father for him to suffer death through crucifixion in order to save the human race from sins, which is also equally punishable by death.
He suffered overwhelming pain from humiliation, insults, physical, emotional, and mental torture when He went through the process, but He endured it all to save us from our sins.
Outside the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City, Catholics bought palm crosses from sellers outside and had them blessed by a priest or by a church minister after the mass.
Palm crosses were commonly made of weaved coconut leaves and were sold at P20 to P30 per assortment.
Palm crosses symbolize victory, triumph, peace and eternal life.
It was used to welcome Jesus Christ who was riding on a donkey as He entered Jerusalem, the Holy, and the capital city of Israel.
Palm Sunday ushers in the Holy Week for Catholics, who observe penitence and reflect on the life, pain, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon and Catholic priests on Sunday emphasized the need to reflect on the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which were meant to save humanity from sins.
The world currently suffers from all forms of crisis that cause uncertainties and instability, they said.
