City to deploy 925 traffic personnel for Holy Week

AROUND 925 city traffic personnel will be deployed in 16 churches in Davao City for the upcoming Holy Week celebration, according to the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office.

"Ang atong opisina nag-prepare ta og deployment plan. Naa ta'y gi-identify na mga 16 ka mga churches, mao na'ng mag-celebrate, duna sila'y mga activities (Our office has prepared a deployment plan. We have identified 16 churches who will celebrate and conduct activities),” CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude said on April 7.

According to Abude, the 925 personnel are divided into 49 personnel at the San Pablo Parish, 84 at the San Pedro Cathedral, 77 at the Shrine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague, and 52 at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, 50 at Sta. Ana Parish, 73 at the Redemptorist Church, 59 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 51 at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 56 at St. Francis of Assisi, 51 at the Ascension of the Lord Parish Davao, 48 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bangkal, 48 at San Antonio de Padua in Agdao, 48 at the Carmelite Monastery, 63 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, and 42 at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish Church in Talomo.

The dispatch of the CTTMO personnel will manage the traffic situation amidst religious activities during the Holy Week such as Via Crucis or Stations of the Cross, Visita Iglesia, and other religious, traditional processions.

Aside from deploying traffic personnel in the major churches of the city, Abude said CTTMO will also man other activities during the five-day Holy Week beginning on Maundy Thursday, April 14 to Easter Sunday on April 17.

With regards to road closure, Abude said the road on San Pedro Cathedral will be closed, as well as a portion of C.M. Recto Street and Bolton Street, wherein the Palm Sunday procession will take place from Rizal Park to Bolton Street and going back to the San Pedro Cathedral.

“Wala'y road closure except for San Pedro Cathedral sa sugat sa Easter Sunday. Dili ni ingon duna gyud road closure. Adjust lang siguro ta (There is no road closure except for San Pedro Cathedral on Easter Sunday. There really isn’t a road closure, we just have to adjust),” Abude said, adding that one-way lanes on roads will be set up for the Holy Week.

Abude reminded the public and motorists to be considerate and patient witht he Holy Week activities, particularly processions and Stations of the Cross as it covers several routes in the city. (With reports from City Information Office)
