VACCINATION drives in the cities of Cebu and Naga were temporarily halted on Monday, April 11, 2022, due to Tropical Depression Agaton (Megi).

But as some local government units in Cebu have temporarily halted their Covid-19 vaccination drives due to Agaton, the Mandaue City Government will continue to give Covid-19 vaccine jabs even with the bad weather.

In Cebu City, local health officials said they decided to suspend their vaccination drive following the order from Mayor Michael Rama to suspend work in both private and public offices as a preventive measure.

Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Health Department, told reporters that all vaccination sites in the city have temporarily suspended their operations until such time that the weather normalizes.

In a separate interview, City councilor Joel Garganera, who heads the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), said they were contemplating to resume their vaccination drive on Tuesday, April 12, but it would depend on the weather condition.

As of April 11, a total of 694,043 individuals in Cebu City who had received their first dose. Of the number, 670,569 individuals have already been fully vaccinated.

In Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan also ordered a suspension of their ongoing vaccination drive due to the bad weather. But later at 6:30 p.m., Chan posted an announcement on his Facebook page, saying the city will resume the vaccination drive on Tuesday, April 12.

Vaccination activities were also suspended in Naga City, southern Cebu on Monday, April 11.

This after Naga City Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong issued an advisory due to the bad weather brought by Agaton.

Chiong also issued separate advisory to further halt her city’s Covid-19 vaccination drive during the Holy Week. Chiong said their vaccination drive will resume on April 18.

Mandaue City

Dr. Ligaya Lakambini Dargantes, head of Mandaue City’s Vaccination Operations Center, announced that the city’s vaccination sites will remain open despite the adverse weather condition because of Agaton.

This as Mandaue’s overall vaccination rate has reached 81 percent, or way beyond the target set by the Inter- Agency Task Force (IATF) which is 70 percent.

As of April 8, 2022, the city already has an 81.20 percent vaccination rate for adult individuals who completed their first dose while 75 percent for those who completed their second dose.
