4 schools suspend classes due to flooding

CLASSES were suspended in four local public schools Tuesday, April 12, due to flooding spawned by Tropical Depression Agaton coupled with low pressure area (LPA).

The schools where classes were suspended are Don Gregorio Evangelista Memorial School in Sta. Catalina village, Tugbungan Elementary School, Baliwasan Central Elementary School, and Talon-Talon National High School.

Dr. Roy Tuballa, City Schools Division superintendent, mobilized Tuesday, April 12, the Division Office's Disaster Risk Reduction Management team led by Basilio Uy, OIC chief of governance, to monitor the situation in schools in flood-prone areas.

Tuballa said school heads have also been directed to order class suspension, at their own level, if the situation calls for it.

The Division of City Schools invokes Executive Order 66, which allows school authorities to suspend classes if the situation endangers the safety of the students and teachers.

The City of Zamboanga has been experiencing intermittent rains due to Tropical Depression Agaton and LPA for about a week now. (SunStar Zamboanga)
