ABOUT four barangays in Bacolod City were affected by floods due to heavy rains triggered by Tropical Depression Agaton since Monday, April 11.

Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, cluster head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), said Tuesday, April 12, that the rains caused floods in some areas of Barangays Mansilingan, Banago, Villamonte and Alijis.

"Most of the affected residents are those living on the river banks," Vargas said.

He added that heavy rains also caused landslides at a portion of Purok San Jose in Barangay Alijis, but no injuries were reported.

The DRRMO reported that it evacuated 19 families comprising of 55 individuals from Purok San Jose.

The families were transferred to the identified evacuation area within their barangay.

Vargas said they are still monitoring the flooded barangays to ensure the safety of the residents.

The DRRMO alerted its Emergency Response Services and the Emergency Operation System 911.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia also earlier ordered all the barangay captains to monitor the flood prone areas within their barangays.

Leonardia also told the barangay captains to coordinate with the DRRMO as the typhoon and the low pressure area continue to bring moderate to heavy rains.

He said the barangay officials should also ready their evacuation centers that have been identified earlier.
