THE Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) will initiate a Traffic Education Campaign for elementary and high school students when classes open.

Mayor Jerry Treñas will sign a memorandum of agreement with schools for such purpose.

PSTMO head Jeck Conlu said this is part of the external services of the newly created Traffic Academy primarily aimed to train traffic enforcers.

“We will have a team to go around the schools to teach students about using pedestrian lanes, knowing the meaning of traffic signs, and basic regulations. Our goal is to achieve the battle cry of ‘creating new generations of drivers and commuters’ -- how to be safe commuters,” Conlu said.

“We will go to the schools because some drivers are hard to teach regarding road safety. So if you teach students the proper way, at least when they graduate, they already understand and know how to apply what they've learned about traffic regulations,” he added. (PR)
